About Name the map
Name the Map is a daily country identification quiz. A country lights up on the world map, and you type its name. Get it wrong and we'll show you the answer, then move on to the next one.
There are ten countries a day, from the famous to the fiendish. Pinch and drag the map to look closer at small countries and islands.
Tips and strategy
- Read the neighbours. If you don't know the country, name the ones around it. It narrows things down fast.
- Zoom out for context. Islands and small states are easier to place once you see the whole region.
- Spelling doesn't matter much. Pick from the suggestions as you type, and accents are optional.
- Practise regions with Fill the World. Naming every country in a continent is the best way to learn the map.

About the map data
Geocade's map, borders and areas come from Natural Earth, a public-domain world map, with 194 countries. Borders count only where main territories touch on land, so overseas regions and sea crossings don't. Where a border or capital is disputed, we follow the most widely used convention and leave out cases that would make a puzzle unfair.
